The Reddit Map for Pet Niche Sites: Where the Buyers Are
By Kevin Glover · 3 min read · Rates as of September 4, 2026
Pet owners ask the internet for permission to spend money on their animals roughly every four minutes. Most of that happens on Reddit. Here's where — and how a niche-site builder should use it.
The communities
r/dogs & r/cats — The general layer, massive scale. Repeating questions: food brand checks, behavior help, "what do I actually need" for new owners. Too broad to own; ideal for understanding baseline concerns and vocabulary.
r/dogfood — Purest buying intent in the vertical. Repeating questions: "is [brand] good," budget vs. premium comparisons, reaction to recalls. Every thread maps to a review page. Note how often Dog Food Advisor is cited — that's what a category-defining resource looks like from the inside.
r/puppy101 — New owners in their maximum-spend window (crates, food, insurance, training gear — often $1,000+ in the first months). Repeating questions: complete shopping lists, food for puppies, crate sizing, insurance yes/no. The single best "registry-style" content opportunity in pets.
r/AskVet — The E-E-A-T benchmark. Read it to learn where the line sits between product guidance and medical advice — and stay on the right side of it on your site.
Breed subs (r/goldenretrievers, r/germanshepherds, r/corgi, dozens more) — Pre-segmented audiences with breed-specific needs: shedding tools, joint supplements, size-appropriate gear. Mid-sized, warm, and mostly unserved by dedicated sites.
The repeating-question goldmine
Five recurring clusters to anchor content: food brand verification, new-owner complete checklists, condition-specific feeding (allergies, sensitive stomach), insurance worth-it debates, and pet-tech skepticism ("do GPS trackers actually work?"). Sort each sub by top posts, harvest the exact phrasing, and your first 25 articles write their own briefs.
The community gaps
Two stand out. Condition-specific: allergy and sensitive-stomach questions flood the general subs with no organized home. Breed-specific commerce: breed subs love their dogs but have no structured buying resources — a "gear & nutrition for [breed]" site paired with genuine sub participation has no incumbent. Both are textbook AffiliateNicheSites gaps: strong intent, weak infrastructure.
The playbook (non-spam edition)
Same rules as everywhere: research first, answer with real experience, build the definitive resource for the question that keeps repeating, link only on exact fit with disclosure, and consider founding the missing community yourself. Pet subs are protective and vet-deferential — respect both, and cite professionals in anything health-adjacent.
Pairing the site with the community from day one is the entire AffiliateNicheSites.com thesis. Join the founding cohort →
