Affiliate Niche Site Builder

Every day I get at least one email from someone who wants to do a link exchange. I think it is interesting that almost all of the emails contain the phrase “Ive greatly enjoyed looking through your site”. This tells me that they are all coming from one person/organization/group.

I have looked at a couple of the sites they are proposing to place a link on–I’m not too impressed. Usually they have a long list of hyperlinks in a column on the right sidebar of the home page. I assume that is where my hyperlink would go. I’ve heard that these types of links don’t help very much in terms of SEO. I’ve heard that links placed in the content of a posting/article are most valuable for SEO.

Do any of you receive emails like this? Have any of you participated in a link exchange like this? Have you had good results?

Here’s an example of one of the emails. I received this one today:
